If you are considering acquiring a new Cubit software licence but you are not sure which licence type is best for you, then below is a quick explanation of each of the licence types to help you make the right decision for your business.
The standalone licence is designed to be used on an independent desktop PC.
The Cubit software would be installed on the desktop PC and then registered with the standalone licence.
Any jobs created will be saved into a local database on that PC and will not be visible to any other Cubit users in the office (unless manually shared using the export/import functionality).
The client\server licence is designed to be used in a network environment were multiple users may be working on the same job, or may just need access to jobs created by other users.
Similarly to the Standalone licence the software will be installed on the users desktop PCs, but rather then installing with the stand alone option, the Multiuser option should be selected.
Once installed the software will be registered with a registration code provided by Buildsoft.
Any jobs created will be saved into the database on the server and will be visible to any other Cubit users in the office.
Terminal Server Licence:
The Terminal Server licence is designed for use on a terminal or Citrix server where users will be logging into to use the Cubit software.
The Cubit software would be installed on the server using the Standalone install type and then registered with the terminal server licence to allow multiple connections to the software.
Any jobs created will be saved into a local database on the server and will be visible to any other Cubit users in the office logged into the terminal or Citrix instance.
Depending on whether you are running a Cubit Professional or Standard edition licence, you will have access to different components in the Cubit software. A full comparison of the differences between the two editions can be found on our website via the link below:
A fixed licence for the Cubit software is designed to be used only on one PC and is best for users who do not need to share the licence with other users or PCs in the office. The Cubit software would be installed and registered on the PC using the fixed licence and cannot be deactivated from that PC without uninstalling the software.
A floating licence for the Cubit software is designed to be used on multiple PCs, just not at the same time and so it is best for users who do need to share the licence with other users or PCs in the office.
The Cubit software would be installed and registered on the PC using the floating licence and can later be deactivated from that PC if required by using the 'Deactivate Licence' option in the Cubit menu on the job manager screen.
Alternatively the software can be set to release the licence automatically when closing the software.
This is done by turning on the 'Release licence when exiting' option in the Cubit Options.
The software does not need to be uninstalled from the PC to be able to deactivate a floating licence.
