Transferring Cubit from a 32 bit machine to a 64 bit machine

Follow

When Cubit is installed there is also another program called PostgreSQL that gets installed alongside it, this program controls the Cubit database. If you have been using a 32 bit machine and are moving to a newer 64 bit machine there are some items that will need to be completed to ensure that the software is installed correctly.

Determine what version you are running

To find out what bit version of Cubit you are running you can do this through your computer's control panel. Click on your Windows Start Menu transfer1.png and start typing to search for Control Panel.

In this window you will find a list of programs that are installed on your machine. In this list you will find Cubit and PostgreSQL. Using the below table for reference you can determine what versions are installed on your machine.

Control Panel Name

What is installed

Cubit

Cubit - 32 bit

Cubit (x64)

Cubit - 64 bit

PostgreSQL 9.2 (x86)

PostgreSQL 9.2 - 32 bit

PostgreSQL 9.2

PostgreSQL 9.2 - 64 bit

Windows version has been updated to 64bit

If Windows has been updated from a 32 bit to a 64 bit machine, Cubit should still function, however it will be installed and running as a 32 bit version. This will cause no issues, however please note that Cubit will only use up to 4GB of RAM (Due to the nature of 32 bit software).

To install the 64 bit software you will need to uninstall the 32 bit software, If you attempt to install 64 bit over the top of 32 bit you’ll be presented with the following error message.

A similar message will appear if you have 64 bit software installed and are trying to install a 32 bit software.

    • You can export the database in Cubit Management Console. This can be count in the directory where you installed Cubit. You can find this location by right clicking on your desktop Cubit icon and select Open File Location from the drop down menu.

If you have installed PostgreSQL elsewhere you can select this by selecting Browse next to PostgreSQL Install Directory.

Uninstalling the 32 bit software

Once you have a backup of your jobs you will need to uninstall the 32 bit version of Cubit, It is also optional to remove the 32 bit version of the database management program called PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL controls and manages Cubit’s database.

To uninstall Cubit you will need to return to your computer's control panel as done previously.

Click on your Windows Start Menu and start typing to search for Control Panel.

From here a new window will open. In this window click on Uninstall a Program under the Programs heading.

Once the software(s) have been uninstalled there are a few additional steps required to ensure that the software is completely uninstalled.

There will be a folder left over by PostgreSQL 9.2 which will need to be deleted. This folder can be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Postgresql. Delete the Postgresql folder completely and restart your machine to complete this process.

Installing the 64 bit software

After the machine has been restarted you can install the 64 bit version of the software.

If you encounter issues during the installation process you can view the Cubit installation guide here: Cubit Installation Guide
