Migrating Cubit Estimating Server Database

When you are replacing Cubit server computer, do the following steps to migrate your Cubit Estimating  database.

 

Upgrade Cubit Estimating

The current and new computers must be running the same version of Cubit Estimating.

1. Product Updates will have installation links for the latest version of Cubit Estimating.

 

Backup Cubit Estimating Database

A database backup is a copy of all the Cubit Estimating jobs, price lists, group codes and plans.

 

1. You can back up the Cubit Estimating database using the Cubit Estimating Management Console on the Cubit server. This can be found in the directory where you installed Cubit Estimating, for example, C:\Program Files\Buildsoft\Cubit\CUBIT Management.exe

 

2. Find CUBIT Management right-click and select Run as administrator.

3. Click Yes, if prompted to continue past User Account Control.

4. Click Configure from the Cubit Estimating Management Console.

5. This opens a Backup settings window where you can specify the following options which need to be set up for a backup to be taken. Click OK when options have been set, to return to the previous screen. 

  • PostgreSQL install directory: The PostgreSQL 9.2 install path on the 64-bit machine needs to be set to C:\Program Files\Postgresql\9.2\bin. If you are using a 32-bit machine, the location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Postgresql\9.2\bin. The PostgreSQL 10 install path on the 64-bit machine needs to be set to C:\Program Files\Postgresql\10\bin. If you are using a 32-bit machine the location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Postgresql\10\bin.

  • Backup directory: The Backup directory can be set at any desired accessible location.

  • Number Of Backups Kept: This number specifies the number of backup files to be kept in the backup location. In the below example, the older backups are removed to ensure that there is always only 6 backup files saved.
    Note: This setting is not needed to be set when moving to a new computer.

  • Scheduled Backups: Set Frequency and Next Run date/time for the backup to run automatically. It is important to make sure the computer is powered for the backup to run.
    Note: This setting is not needed to be set when moving to a new computer.

6. On the Cubit Estimating Management Console, click Backup to manually back up the database.  Note: This may take some time, depending on the size of your Cubit Estimating data.

7. You will be notified when a backup is completed successfully, click OK to finish.

Install Cubit Server on the new Cubit Server

On your replacement server, install the Cubit Estimating Server using the same installation files as what was used in the section Upgrade Cubit Estimating.

Note: The same version of Cubit Estimating must be used to restore a database backup.

 

Restore Database Backup

1. On the new server, Run as administrator the Cubit Estimating Management Console.

 

2. Click Configure from the Cubit Estimating Management Console.

3. This opens a Backup settings window where you can specify the following options which need to be set up. Click OK when options have been set, to return to the previous screen.

4. Click Restore.

5. Click Browse to locate the Cubit Estimating database backup file, then click Restore to start the restore.

6. You will be notified when the restore is completed successfully, click OK to finish.

 

Add / Edit Client's Server Connection

On each of the Cubit Client devices, confirm that their Cubit is running the same version as the Cubit Server then add / edit the Server connection.
