BIM Reader capabilities:

Hi,

I have been using your BIM reader module for some time now and I have also used various other software platforms revolving around 3D models and integration for estimating purposes. Firstly, I am glad you guys have decided to introduce a BIM reader to your platform. Although in its early days in terms of functionality I feel you are on the right track. I have also played around with REVIT and understand how the model attributes and values are carried across in DWF/DWFX formats into CUBIT.

My suggestion is - Revit has an inflexible method for modeling pipes and ductwork. unfortunately BIM reader in cubit does not allow you to differentiate between different pipe sizes or duct work sizes. this makes it difficult to quantify accurately. Could you please provide some tools in BIM reader module that allows the user to select multiple BIM take off results and assign it with custom attribute or a 'tag' that can be transferred back into cubit from BIM reader. or something similar along those lines. Maybe a drag and drop function directly from BIM reader straight into cubit. Would be better if you could multi-select items and drag over into cubit.

thanks and regards

    Taariq,

Since your post, we have introduced our own BIM takeoff tool, that lets you take off BIM quantities from your VIewport directly into your Estimate. At the moment, this tool works with IFC files. We'll continue to develop and improve this feature so you can better takeoff quantities from a BIM model.

If you have used this new component, I hope you've found it useful. We'd appreciate any feedback on our implementation.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Taariq,

Thank for your feedback on the BIM Reader, i have passed your suggestion onto our development team for review. If adopted this suggestion may appear in a future version of the software.
