Planned
Ability to measure a dimension or object on a plan
A new tool request.
A tape measure tool would be very handy for when you want to measure an item without necessarily want a result to input.
An example of this would be if on elevation Plans the widow sizes had not been annotated, then you could use the tape measure tool to measure the height and width of the window, then allowing you to create the correct size in the window tool. Another example would be if you want to measure the height on a plan if no dimension had been noted, then use that height within the estimate as required.
As we know, sometimes the plans we work with don't contain all the information we always want them to!

Thanks again Darren ! Appreciate you taking time to share your Ideas and Suggestions with us. The examples provided are very helpful.
I have created a new feature request detailing the purpose.
Savitha, is this not the same function as the "Dimensions" function under the 'View' tab?
Click the first point, put cursor at last point, but don't click - the dimension is shown.
The dimension tool is also quite useful for checking the scale of structural plans. After I scale the plan, i need to double check by measure 1 grid line to another grid line by look at the dimension from architectural.
By the way, you can create first item "Scale check/Dimension" in order to do that.
Hi Grant, Appreciate your comments. The Dimension view is very similar function however we still need an item with result type set to show dimensions.
The request for Tape measure tool is to show the dimensions as per the scale without having to measure any item (may be double click to auto select to node points.)
Yes, a tape measure tool, to even just get a temporary measurement would be a handy tool to have without recording the measurement.
As we've moved more away from using hard copy plans, often we get queried in the office or by a tenderer quoting works, on a measurement that is not shown in full on the drawings and would like a quick measurement provided, this tool would help.
Thanks for your clarification David. We appreciate and welcome your feedback. I will create a Support ticket for you now to raise your feature request.
Thanks all for your suggestions and views.
We always appreciate our customers view points for improving the software, and duly note these viewpoints when reviewing our customers suggestions.
I just wanted to provide an update to this suggestion.
I have checked in with our development team, and the tape measure tool is something we are working towards adding to the Cubit software.
Unfortunately i cannot give an ETA as to when this will become available however.
