How to Use Auto Area in Cubit Estimating (v14)

Auto Area automatically detects and outlines enclosed spaces such as rooms and slabs on scaled floor plans. Follow the steps below to prepare your plan, review detected shapes, refine geometry, and apply results to your estimate.

Prepare Your Plan
Steps

Open Cubit Estimating

Load your plan in the Viewport.

Import and scale your plan

If required, import the plan and use Scale Plan to set the correct scale.

Check your drawing

Ensure the drawing is a floor plan with clearly enclosed wall boundaries.

Navigate to AI Tools

Go to the Home tab and locate the AI Tools section.

Start Auto Area

Click Auto Area to begin detection.

i Tip: Auto Area performs best on high-quality floor plans with clear, continuous walls.

View AI-Detected Shapes
Once detection completes, shapes appear in two places
  • Highlighted directly in the Viewport
  • Listed under AI Shapes in the Shapes pane
Steps
1
Open the Shapes pane

Locate the AI Shapes section

Toggle visibility

Use the eye icon to show or hide detected shapes.

Review each detected area

Check for completeness and alignment against the plan.

Edit Shape Geometry

AI-detected shapes behave the same as manually drawn shapes and can be refined at any time.

Adjusting a shape

Enable Select

Click Select from the toolbar.

Click the shape

Select a detected shape in the Viewport.

Drag to adjust

Drag corner points or edges to refine boundaries.

Exit editing

Press Esc when done.

Removing a point
  • Hold CTRL
  • Hover over the unwanted vertex
  • Click to remove the point
! Always review and refine geometry before applying shapes to your estimate.

Use Shapes in Your Estimate
Steps
1
Open the Shapes pane

Select the required AI shape

Drag and drop

Drop the shape into a pre-existing line item's quantity cell.

Quantity populates automatically

The calculated area is applied directly to the linked trade item.

AI can and does make mistakes. Always review and verify every result before using it in your estimate — AI-generated shapes, counts, and detections may be inaccurate, incomplete, or miss elements entirely. Use your professional judgement to check all outputs.
