Migrate Cubit Estimating Floating or Fixed Standalone Licence and Database

  • A Standalone Licence is designed to be used only on an individual computer. All Cubit Estimating job data will be stored in a database on the computer's hard drive.
  • A Cubit Estimating Fixed licence can only be activated and used on one computer at a time.
  • A Cubit Estimating Floating licence is designed to be shared with other users.

Follow these steps to move your Cubit Estimating Floating licence or Cubit Estimating Fixed licence to another computer and the database. 

Update Cubit Estimating version

The current and new devices must be running the same version of Cubit Estimating.

  1. Product Updates will have installation links for the latest version of Cubit Estimating.

Note: Please make sure to validate the Cubit Estimating version you are entitled to before updating the software.

Create a Cubit Estimating standalone database backup

A database backup will copy all jobs, price lists, group codes, and plans.

1. You can back up a database via the Cubit Estimating Management Console. This can be found in the directory where you installed Cubit Estimating. Example C:\Program Files\Buildsoft\Cubit.

OR

2. You can find it by right-clicking your Cubit Estimating desktop icon and selecting Open file location.

3. Find Cubit Management and right-click the icon. Select Run as administrator.

4. Click Yes, if prompted to continue past User Account Control.

5. Click Configure from the Cubit Estimating Management Console.

6. This opens a Backup settings window. Here you can specify the following options, which will need to be set up for a backup to be taken correctly. Click OK to return to the Cubit Estimating Management console

  • PostgreSQL install directory:
    • The PostgreSQL 9.2 install path on the 64-bit machine needs to be set to C:\Program Files\Postgresql\9.2\bin. On a 32-bit machine, the location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Postgresql\9.2\bin.
    • If you have PostgreSQL 10 the install path on a 64-bit machine needs to be set to C:\Program Files\Postgresql\10\bin. On a 32-bit machine, the location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Postgresql\10\bin.
  • Backup directory: The Backup directory can be set at any desired accessible location.
  • Number of Backups Kept: This number specifies the number of backup files to be kept in the backup location. In the below example, the older backups are removed to ensure that there are always only 6 backup files saved.
    Note: This setting is not needed to be set when moving to a new computer.
  • Scheduled backups: Set Frequency and date-time for the backup to run automatically. It is important to make sure the computer is available for the backup to run at the specified time.
    Note: These settings are not needed to be saved when moving to a new computer.

7. Click Backup to manually Backup the Database.

Note:  This may take some time, depending on the size of your Cubit Estimating data.

8. You will be notified when the backup is completed successfully, click Close to finish.

Uninstall Cubit Estimating

If you have a fixed Cubit Estimating license, once you have a backup of your jobs, uninstall Cubit Estimating.

1. Right mouse click on the Windows start icon and look for Apps and Features

2. Locate and select Cubit Estimating from the program list and click Uninstall.

3. Windows will alert you that it and its info will be uninstalled. Click Uninstall.  Windows will now uninstall Cubit Estimating from your machine.

 Install Cubit Estimating

On your replacement machine install the same installation files as what was used in section Upgrade Cubit Estimating version.

Note: It is important that the same version of Cubit Estimating is used to restore a database backup.

Restore Database Backup

1. On the new Cubit Estimating computer, Run as Administrator the Cubit Management Console.

2. Click Configure from the Cubit Estimating Management Console.

3. This opens a Backup settings window. Here you can specify the following options which will need to be set up for a backup to be taken correctly. Click OK when complete.

4. Click Restore.

5. Click Browse to locate the Cubit Estimating database backup file.  (you must browse and select a new file to restore or you will receive an error message).

Once the backup file is selected, use the dropdown next to Restore to select either Restore or Clear and Restore. (version 10.1.2 and above have the Clear and Restore option)

6. Once the database restore has been completed successfully you will see the message below.

This completes the migration of Cubit Estimaitng Floating or Fixed Standalone licence and Database.
