The standalone license is designed to be used on an independent desktop PC. Cubit Estimating would be installed on the desktop PC and then registered with the standalone license. Any jobs created will be saved into a local database on that PC and will not be visible to other Cubit Estimating users (unless manually shared using the export/import functionality).
Cubit Estimating Standalone is available as a Fixed or Floating license.
Fixed Licence:
A fixed license for the Cubit Estimating software is designed to be used only on one PC and is best for users who do not need to share the license with other users or PCs in the office. The Cubit Estimating software would be installed and registered on the PC using the fixed license and cannot be deactivated from that PC without uninstalling the software.
Floating Licence:
A floating license for the Cubit Estimating software is designed to be used on multiple PCs, just not at the same time.
Cubit Estimating would be installed and registered on the PC using the floating license and can later be deactivated from that PC if required by using the Deactivate Licence option in the Cubit Estimating menu on the Job Manager screen.
Alternatively, the software can be set to release the license automatically when closing Cubit Estimating. This is done by turning on the Release license when exiting option in the Cubit Estimating Options.
Detailed instructions on how this can be done can be found here.
A video for this feature is also available here.
The software does not need to be uninstalled from the PC to be able to deactivate a floating licence.
To install Cubit Estimating, you will need the installation links from Buildsoft. These would have been emailed to you along with your serial key codes for registering the software.
The standalone installation guide can be found here.
Comments
Could you clarify the process of releasing and then capturing the license key? We're using Cubit Professional.
I've ticked the box to release the license key under Settings and closed Cubit. All other staff similarly have done this on their own machines.
If someone on another machine opens Cubit and wishes to then use it, do they have to enter a key (possibly the same key as I've been using), and then Cubit will be activated properly?
Is there any issue with there being two different email addresses associated with the same license key?
Does the program automatically find a valid and available license key when Cubit is started?
Hi Mike,
There should be no issue using the same floating key on multiple PCs.
The software will check the license key when starting the software to make sure it is valid and available as you mentioned.
If you have a Cubit Estimating floating stand alone license key, then you can use this to activate the software on as many PCs as needed.
However the license key would only be able to be running on one of those PCs at a time.
If the license key is already in use on a PC, and you try to start the software on another PC, it will get you a message telling you the license key is already in use.
